Friday Night Music Series: Matthew French & Sarah Morris

Luce Line Brewing Co. 12901 16th Ave N, Plymouth, MN, United States

2018 Kerrville New Folk winner Sarah Morris’ endearingly honest, expertly penned songs deliberately miss the forest for the trees. Armed with a poignantly relatable rainy day ache in her sunlit voice, she weaves a winding path of masterful storytelling and timeless Americana melody that invites audiences to join her in celebrating the magic of our everyday minutia. In the eight years of her career, Sarah has shared stages with greats like JD Souther, earned international airplay, and reached notable positions on the Americana Music Association and Euro Americana charts. Just over a year after releasing her Americana-charting album All Mine, Sarah recently released Between Here and There. This 4-song collection is decidedly more stripped down than her previous full-band recordings, showcasing the vulnerability in these songs–seeking love and human connection. including ‘Be With You’, which AmericanaUK says “perfectly captured {the} particular element of the weirdness of the last twelve months. Singer-songwriter Matthew French has quickly become a regular on the burgeoning Twin Cities Americana music scene. Known for his positive and uplifting live shows, French’s melodies transport and his lyrics tell a story. Our story. A human story. Raised in small-town Ohio and now residing in Minneapolis, French released his EP Winding Road in 2016. Building on the success of Winding Road, French’s debut full-length album, Sweet Love, was released in 2018. Back with new music for the first time in two years, French unpacks universal themes of love, kindness, and community with a conversational lyricism that invites the listener to find themselves in his stories. Matthew’s audiences feel reflected in the warmth of his voice. Not strangers, just unmet friends.

The results have been the most productive in the duo’s musical journey, and they are having a heck of a lot of fun. Fathers of four kids each say that, ultimately, Hula Creek’s master plan is to make their kids think that they are cool...listen to find out if it’s working!
